Bio
Kevin Dugat is a trombonist, educator, and current Doctor of Musical Arts student at Boston University where he studies with Boston Symphony Principal Trombonist Toby Oft.
In 2015, Dugat established a thriving studio of middle school and high school low brass students in the San Antonio area while maintaining an active performance schedule. In 2016 he toured nationally as a member of the brass quintet with the St. Louis based “Cornerstone Chorale and Brass”. From 2016-2017 he was on faculty at the Luzerne Music Center in Lake Luzerne, New York where he also performed in the Luzerne Music Center Brass Quintet. Dugat performed as the first trombonist with the San Antonio Brass Band from 2018-2020, and proudly helped the band place first in the “First Section” division of the North American Brass Band Competition in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 2018. Dugat has been called to regularly sub with Kerrville’s own Symphony of the Hills on tenor and bass trombone and was called to sub with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra in early 2020.
Dugat joined Schreiner University in the fall of 2017 as the Coordinator of University Bands and Adjunct Professor of Brass. Between 2017-2021, Kevin assisted with the University Concert Band, conducted the University Basketball Band, the University Brass Ensemble, the University Jazz Band, and taught all low brass majors at the university. During Dugat’s tenure at Schreiner University he led a growth initiative that saw the band’s number grow from 13 to over 40 students and music major numbers jump from 2 to above 20 students. Since 2017, Kevin has presented lectures on freelancing and growing studio culture as well as performance masterclasses at Schreiner University, Texas State University, Texas Lutheran University, The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, and The University of South Alabama. He has also been in demand for masterclass work at numerous high school and middle school programs across central Texas region.
Originally from Kerrville, Texas, Dugat holds a Master of Music from the University of Alabama, as well as a Bachelor of Music from Texas State University. Dugat’s primary collegiate instructors were Dr. Jonathan Whitaker and Dr. Martin McCain Jr.
