Beginning in the fall of 2025, Kevin Dugat will join the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as Visiting Lecturer of Low Brass and General Education. Throughout his career, Dugat has enjoyed a wide experience as a performer, educator, and academic.

From 2017 to 2021, he served as Coordinator of University Bands and Adjunct Instructor of Brass at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. While at Schreiner, he assisted with the University Concert Band, conducted the University Basketball Band, the University Brass Ensemble, and the University Jazz Band, and taught applied low brass. Under his leadership, the Concert Band grew from 13 to over 50 members, and the number of music majors rose from just 2 to more than 20. In addition to his university work, Dugat was an in-demand private lesson instructor and clinician, working with middle and high school programs throughout central Texas.

From 2021 to 2025, Dugat lived in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was deeply involved in the New England music scene. He performed regularly with ensembles such as the Boston Chamber Symphony and the Boston Annex Players, and frequently appeared as a substitute with orchestras across the region. As a chamber musician, he was a founding member of several groups, including the Boston Trombone Octet, the TexMass Brass Trio, the 855 Brass Quintet, and the Vox Trombonae Trombone Trio. His solo performances have included recitals at institutions such as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Keene State College.

Dugat’s academic research explores international approaches to trombone pedagogy, with a particular focus on the work of the late Dr. Irvin Wagner. His scholarship was recently featured at the 2025 Big 12 Trombone Conference in Lubbock, Texas. A committed advocate for new music, Dugat has participated in numerous commissions and consortia for contemporary trombone and brass works. In 2023, he led a consortium commissioning composer David Faleris to write The Pull of a Greater Tide, a piece for tenor trombone, tenor voice, and piano. He will present this work at the 2025 International Trombone Festival in London, Ontario, as part of the Performing Artist Showcase.

Originally from Kerrville, Texas, Dugat holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, with additional degrees from the University of Alabama and Texas State University. His principal teachers include Toby Oft, Dr. Jonathan Whitaker, and Dr Martin McCain.
